The Opportunity

We are recruiting for a Group Sales Director to join the senior management team based at our Headquarters at Innovation Birmingham’s Digital Campus (former Science Park).  


First Orchard is a holding company for Made in the Midlands and Made in Yorkshire ( www.madeinthemidlands.com  www.madeinyorkshire.com ) we are a membership business with more than 600 customers from the manufacturing sector. We support members with a unique digital platform and microblogging service, in addition to hosting weekly best practice factory tours, a major annual trade exhibition and social events.


We have an exciting opportunity for a high calibre, proactive and experienced Sales Director to join our senior management team and lead, grow and inspire our small sales team through a significant sales transformation. You will take accountability for the entire Sales function, including the delivery of sales volume, margin and profitability targets. We need an intelligent, collaborative and well-structured approach to the management responsibilities of the sales team and its activities.


It is essential that the successful individual has a proven track record of success in a similar position and a proven ability to lead and motivate, exceeding targets and maximising profitability across all areas of our sales. A desire to bring new ideas to continue to drive performance is paramount. An insight into and an understanding of the UK manufacturing sector would be an advantage. Based in Birmingham, this is a hands-on role with limited travel in the UK, primarily in the Midlands and Yorkshire regions.



Job Purpose

  • Lead your sales team with drive, energy and urgency to ensure maximum conversion is extracted from the available leads
  • Ensure financial targets and KPIs are met, if not exceeded, across the team
  • Effectively manage the performance of individuals within the team, ranging from new starters to high performers through coaching and developing people to meet individual, team and company goals
  • Report on the performance of individuals in a variety of formats, from monthly sales reviews to annual appraisals
  • Tackle under performance promptly in conjunction with the Director of Operations
  • In conjunction with the Director of Operations take responsibility for setting and communicating targets for individuals within the team
  • Provide sales training and constant support to the team and ensure their skills are industry leading
  • Working with the Business Development Director/Deputy CEO, you will help to define and execute the sales strategy.

Requirements

Skills & Qualifications

  • Qualified to degree level and/or with extensive, relevant and senior experience
  • An insight into and an understanding of the UK manufacturing sector is an advantage
  • Proven track record of effectively managing and coaching sales professionals within a complex selling environment
  • Previous experience in Sales Transformation and changing sales mindsets is a distinct advantage
  • Customer centric sales ethos is critical and  the ability to instil this in the team
  • Able to deliver a continually improving sales performance against core business and new products
  • Strong numerate and analytical skills
  • Strong emotional intelligence and excellent communication skills at all levels
  • Good understanding of key business areas, including solid commercial acumen
  • High degree of self-reliance and self-motivation
  • Full and clean driving licence.


 

Experience

Sales: 5 years (Preferred)

Management: 10 years (Preferred)
